4th Annual Safety Stand-Down - May 8th-12th
The Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction is holding its fourth annual Safety Stand-Down for the week of May 8th-12th, 2017. The goal of the Stand-Down is to raise fall hazard awareness and prevent fall fatalities and injuries. Falls are a leading cause of death for workers, accounting for 350 of the 937 construction fatalities and 648 of the 4,836 fatalities in all industries recorded in 2015 (BLS data).
The Stand-Down is an opportunity for employers to have a conversation with workers about fall hazards, protective methods, and the company’s safety policies, goals and expectations. This should also be an opportunity for workers to talk to management about fall hazards they see. Over the last few years, thousands of companies participated in the Stand-Down reaching millions of workers across all 50 states and internationally! Over 130 public events were held across the country last year. By continuing to reach millions of workers, OSHA hopes to decrease the number of fatalities and injuries related to falls recorded each year.
