Liberty Mutual Safety Innovation Award in Construction

The Liberty Mutual Safety Innovation Award in Construction recognizes innovative evidence-based technologies, work practices, and programs (interventions) designed to reduce or eliminate construction hazards that lead to injuries and pain in the construction industry.  The Award is sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance and administered by CPWR, and an applicant may be an individual or an organization.

The Award was established to:

  • Encourage the development of innovative hazard reduction interventions; and
  • Educate the construction community about current safety and health hazards of national concern and promote wide-spread use of interventions to address them.

The recipients of the initial Liberty Mutual Safety Innovation Award in Construction were announced June 11. The winner was the 3-in-1 Little Giant King Kombo all-access fiberglass ladder, the world’s first stepladder, extension ladder, and lean-to ladder in one lightweight package.  Honorable mentions went to the ITI VR Construction Hazard Awareness Application, which measures workers’ ability to identify hazards by immersing them in a virtual construction site, and Suckabucket, which controls particulate pollution during the mixing of of dry materials like concrete, keeping workspaces cleaner and employees healthier. Read more about the honorees; video presentations from the creators of each innovation will be available soon.
