Best Built Plans Adds New Resources
To Prevent MSDs
 As reported in last month's Update, many construction workers continue to suffer from soft tissue injuries. The Best Built Plans program (BBP) is designed to reduce the risks for these injuries by providing contractors with resources to plan for safe manual materials handling at each project stage and to use on the job to raise awareness and reinforce safe practices. Thanks to a small group of contractors who piloted the program, new resources have been added, including an app version of the planning and interactive training resources, a Spanish version of the planning tool, and a video on how to use the program. Also, with help from the United Association and the Mechanical Contractors Association of America and input from industry trainers, a new training program for workers and contractors that builds on BBP resources has been piloted and will be released soon.

Three New Resources for Managing Use of Nanomaterials
Much thinner than a human hair, engineered and manufactured nanomaterials are increasingly used in construction. When workers cut, grind, sand, or disturb such products, dust containing the nanomaterial gets into the air that workers breathe, possibly creating hazards. CPWR has just released three new Toolbox Talks -- each in English and in Spanish -- to help the construction industry manage these potential dangers.

Tuesday, November 19th at 2:00 p.m. ET: Lessons from a Contractor: How to Use and Apply CPWR Resources
In this 30-minute webinar, you will hear from UCOR representative Libby Gilley, Integrated Safety Management Program Lead, about how their company has utilized and built off CPWR resources, training programs, and campaigns in order to improve the safety and health of their workers. UCOR is a contractor that provides safe, cost-effective and innovative solutions to support environmental cleanup for the Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management. Some of the CPWR resources they have used include the Foundations for Safety Leadership Training (FSL), online webinars, and the Safety Climate Assessment Tool (S-CAT). The webinar presentation will be followed by Q&A.
