New Award Recognizes Innovative
Safety Interventions
 CPWR and Liberty Mutual Insurance have just announced the Liberty Mutual Safety Innovation Award in Construction, which will honor innovative, evidence-based interventions -- including technologies, work practices, and programs -- that can reduce hazards for construction workers. Sponsored by Liberty Mutual and administered by CPWR, the award includes a $15,000 cash prize to the winning individual or organization; one or more honorable mentions may also be awarded, each with a $5,000 prize. Applications open October 1, 2019.
OSHA Requesting Silica Exposure Data
OSHA has issued a request for information to expand the tool and task combinations in Table 1 of the Respirable Crystalline Silica Standard for Construction. If you have silica exposure data for workers, please review the request and submit comments to OSHA no later than October 15th!
CPWR Again to Serve as the NIOSH National Construction Center
CPWR has been awarded a new five-year cooperative agreement with NIOSH to continue serving as the NIOSH National Construction Center. We welcome new and continuing university partners into our research consortium and are kicking off 13 multi-year research projects and programs aimed at reducing construction worker injury, death, and disease. Stay tuned for upcoming webinars and other highlights of our new research program. Our strong research-to-practice and communications programs will continue to engage a wide range of stakeholders to share findings, products, and practical tools from our decades of collaborative experience serving NIOSH and the construction sector in the United States.

TOOLS FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH
New Spanish-Language Resources for Preventing Hearing Loss
 Three of every four construction workers are overexposed to noise, which makes resources to prevent hearing loss crucial, and CPWR's Construction Noise and Hearing Loss Prevention Training Program is now also available in Spanish (Prevención de la hipoacusia). The program offers simple modules and exercises that can be used on their own or as part of OSHA training. CPWR has several other resources to raise awareness of and address this hazard, such as a Hazard Alert for Noise in English and in Spanish.

Thursday, September 26th at 1:00 p.m. Eastern: An Overview of Health Hazards Associated with the Aftermath of Hurricanes
Our country has experienced a number of severe hurricanes and other natural disasters over the last couple of decades. CPWR operates a Disaster Response Training program with NABTU that prepares skilled construction workers to safely use their skills in support of response and recovery efforts, restoration of essential services, and removal of hazards without interfering with the vital activities of first responders. We also collaborated with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) National Clearinghouse to create a Disaster Preparedness App (available for Android and Apple phones) that provides easy access to training tools, as well as health and safety guidance, for those involved in disaster response and cleanup activities.
