Dr. Hester Lipscomb is professor of occupational and environmental medicine at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. She is an occupational epidemiologist with training in nursing and health behavior including health and safety problems of construction workers.

Dennis Patterson and James Nolan are union carpenters affiliated with the Carpenters District Council of Greater St. Louis and Vicinity. In addition to over 60 combined years of construction experience, they each have more than 10 years of occupational safety research experience. Both Patterson and Nolan are OSHA 500 certified.

CPWR, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created by the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO. Since the inception of research initiatives in 1990, CPWR has become an international leader in applied research, training and service to the construction industry.

Occupational Safety & Health Administration 

Part of OSHA’s mission is to provide assistance to employers to reduce or eliminate workplace hazards. OSHA provides a vast array of informational and training materials focusing on numerous safety and health hazards in the workplace.

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health

The mission of NIOSH is to generate new knowledge in the field of occupational safety and health and to transfer that knowledge into practice for the betterment of workers. To accomplish this mission, NIOSH conducts scientific research, develops guidance and authoritative recommendations, disseminates information, and responds to requests for workplace health hazard evaluations.

NIOSH provides national and world leadership to prevent work-related illness, injury, disability, and death by gathering information, conducting scientific research, and translating the knowledge gained into products and services, including scientific information products, training videos, and recommendations for improving safety and health in the workplace.

Consumer Product Safety Commission

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from thousands of types of consumer products under the agency’s jurisdiction. The CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazard or can injure children. The CPSC’s work to ensure the safety of consumer products – such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters, and household chemicals – contributed significantly to the 30 percent decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 30 years.

ISANTA is an international organization of premier power fastening companies involved in the design, manufacturing, and sales of pneumatic and cordless tools and the fasteners they drive. 

National Association of Home Builders
