Data Dashboards

Construction Employment Trends

The construction workforce has grown over the past decade and its demographics have undergone notable changes.  Understanding worker needs in these conditions requires timely data.

This story-dashboard, which originally accompanied CPWR’s March 2022 Data Bulletin, contains two sets of charts about the construction workforce. They can be navigated by clicking either the blue caption boxes or the arrows at the top of the dashboard. The charts examine: 1) Annual employment trends and 2) Employment and COVID-19. Data on total employment and employment by worker characteristics are from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Current Population Survey, downloaded from IPUMS. Data on private payroll employment and subsector data are from the BLS Current Employment Statistics.

Information on specific charts and instructions for dashboard use are included in the information icon Data Dashboard information icon located to the right of each dashboard title. To get a full view of the dashboard on a mobile device, zoom out slightly and use landscape mode, which will provide a better navigation experience.

You can download the data as a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is color-coded for each set of charts, and each worksheet name is based on the corresponding dashboard chart.

The dashboard will be updated in Fall 2024. If you have questions or comments, please email [email protected].
