Liberty Mutual Safety Innovation Award in Construction

The Liberty Mutual Safety Innovation Award recognizes innovative evidence-based technologies, work practices, and programs (interventions) designed to reduce or eliminate construction hazards that lead to injuries and pain in the construction industry.
Sponsored by Liberty Mutual in partnership with CPWR, the award includes a $15,000 cash prize to the winning individual or organization; one or more honorable mentions may also be awarded, each with a $5,000 prize.

For 2021, Liberty Mutual Insurance and CPWR recognized three innovations to improve construction workers’ safety.  Winning the grand prize was Anchor Thread from Ajustco, which workers attach to concrete form work pre-pour; it becomes a permanent attachment point in the superstructure that can be used in multiple ways to improve safety and for other purposes. Honorable mention went to ViCAS, which uses artificial intelligence and machine vision technologies to detect proximity, mitigate blind zone accidents, and prevent collision between heavy vehicles and workers. Also chosen as a finalist was the Hilmerson Safety Rail System, an engineered steel guardrail kit that can be quickly deployed on a variety of surfaces.

The Liberty Mutual Safety Innovation Award will take place again in 2022—more information will be coming this fall.
