Construction is a large, dynamic, and complex industry sector dominated by small establishments.

This dashboard summarizes the number of payroll establishments and employees in the construction industry from 2011 to 2020 by state, establishment size, and subsector. Publicly available data were obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau County Business Patterns (CBP). Self-employed or nonemployer establishments are excluded from the CBP data.

Dashboard instructions and information on filters, charts, and definitions are included in the information icon  located to the right of the dashboard title.

You can download the data as a spreadsheet. Each worksheet’s name is based on the corresponding dashboard chart.
